    Media Producer

    Hiring: Media Producer

We are seeking to hire a part-time Media Producer to oversee all of our audio, video, streaming, and lighting needs. The Media Producer works with the pastor, staff, and volunteers to develop, schedule, and implement all aspects of audiovisual technology required to facilitate effective ministry at St. John’s United Methodist Church. This person is responsible for coordinating all audiovisual elements of worship, including but not limited to: visual content for in-person worship and live streaming, video, lighting, sound, digital editing, and production.

The Media Producer’s ultimate goal is to ensure that services and events across all facilities and ministries are able to utilize technology efficiently, effectively, and strategically in order to enhance the experience of those attending. The Media Producer should have a basic knowledge of video production, live streaming, sound and lighting. He/she must have strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to lead a team of volunteers, who assist in producing quality, meaningful worship each week. The Media Producer has an understanding that this position is an extension of the ministry of St. John’s United Methodist Church.

The Media Producer is a part-time position with a guarantee of 12 hours per week, which requires non-standard work hours, with some flexible scheduling (Sunday mornings required; additional hours may be done remotely if approved by supervisor).

Compensation: $15-$20/hour, based on experience, guaranteed 12 hours per week minimum.

Applications are being accepted now and will be reviewed on an ongoing basis until the position is filled. Because this position requires close proximity for extended periods of time candidates should be fully vaccinated or in the process of completing their vaccination for COVID-19. Qualified candidates are invited to send a resume and a letter explaining why you believe you would be a great fit to jobs@stjohnsbr.org by September 7, 2021.

  • 2020 Christmas Eve

Christmas will look and feel a little different this year, but Christmas will come! The light shines in the darkness and the darkness has not, will not, and cannot overcome it. Together, let’s celebrate the message of Christmas — the message of love. For Christmas Eve 2020 we will offer two ways to worship.

ONLINE: We have a unique opportunity to celebrate and worship at home on Christmas Eve this year with our online service, which will include traditional scripture readings, beloved carols, a virtual Christmas pageant featuring St. John’s children, and a message by Pastor Lane. Join us on Facebook at 1 p.m. as we worship together, and the video will be available by 6 a.m. on Christmas Eve and any time after here on our website, Vimeo, and YouTube. You may download the online Christmas Eve service worship guide here.

IN-PERSON: At dusk, we will gather outside the sanctuary for Carols by Candlelight, a socially distanced outdoor celebration at 5 p.m. on Christmas Eve. During this brief service, we will read the Christmas story and sing beloved carols, illuminated by candlelight. Bundle up for the expected cold weather! You are welcome to bring a chair or blanket for seating. Please wear your mask and practice social distancing. In the case of inclement weather — ONLY IF IT IS RAINING — we will gather on Zoom at 5 p.m. You may download the Carols by Candlelight worship guide here.

    60 Years

Join us as we celebrate 60 years as a church family

2021 marks the 60th anniversary of St. John’s United Methodist Church in south Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Throughout this year we will “Give God the Glory!”

During our January 31 worship services we remembered our first 60 years and looked forward to the next 60 years and beyond. Longtime St. John’s member Danielle Blackwood shared a number of opportunities for you to commemorate this special year in the life of the church. Both 8:30 and 11 a.m. worship services are available for replay across our video channels.

Join us in celebrating St. John’s 60th anniversary as together we “Give God the Glory!”

    Respond and Reflect

We need you to help us celebrate! We’re asking all members and friends of St. John’s to reflect on and answer three prompts. They can be somewhat overwhelming when first read. In order to help you answer and create meaningful dialog, we encourage you to imagine that you can share one answer per prompt, and you have 60 seconds to enlighten the audience.

    1. Favorite memory of something/someone at St. John’s
    2. Present day thing you like most about St. John’s
    3. What would you like to see for the future of St. John’s?

Several opportunities will be available to record your responses on video on Sunday April 11, 18 & 25 at 9:45 a.m. and Monday April 19 & 26 at 4:30 p.m. If you prefer to write or record yourself, you may email your answers and reflections to stjohns60@stjohnsbr.org. If you have any pictures from years gone by, share those as well!

Join The Second Printing Waitlist for Our 60th Anniversary Cookbook

Our first 100 copies of the St. John’s 60th Anniversary Cookbook have all been sold!

As part of our anniversary celebration and in keeping with our mission to feed people, St. John’s UMC is publishing a cookbook! St. John’s cooks–past, present and future–submitted 360 recipes for the cookbook. Each book is $20, and we encourage you to buy multiple copies, perhaps tucking one away for a future member or buying copies for grown children who grew up at St. John’s. Proceeds from the cookbook will help fund our forthcoming kitchen renovation. Thank you to all our contributors! To God be the Glory for 60 years of feeding people!

If you pre-ordered one of the first 100 copies, they will be ready for pickup beginning Sunday May 23 during our Birthday Party celebration.

If you didn’t get a chance to order or wish you’d ordered more, we’ve created a waitlist. Once we have at least 50 orders on the waitlist, we’ll do a second, and likely final, printing. Once we place the order, those books will be available a few weeks after that. Join our waitlist at stjohnsbr.org/order-cookbooks

    St. John’s Swag!

Give God the Glory by wearing our 60th Anniversary commemorative logo, which were available to order on a variety of shirt types. All shirts will be navy blue, and our supplier is able to offer short-sleeve and long-sleeve T-shirts, sweatshirts, polo shirts, and button-down dress shirts. The pre-ordered shirts will be available for pickup starting Sunday May 16, and we invite you to wear them to our 60th Anniversary birthday event on May 23!

    Updated Pictorial Directory

This fall we will be taking pictures for a new pictorial directory, our first one in more than five years. Sign up for pictures will begin in mid-July, and the process is set up to follow all COVID requirements. We’ll announce more details this summer!

    60th Anniversary Ornament

We have commissioned local artist Kai to make ornaments featuring our beautiful Burch Bell Tower. These will be available to order later this year so they will be ready to grace our Christmas trees. Stay tuned for more details about how to purchase!

    60th Anniversary Paraments

Our beautiful 60th Anniversary paraments were lovingly created by Joyce Perry. Thank you to Joyce for always sharing her time and talents. This set took five months from concept to hanging, and the pictures don’t do them justice. You’ve really outdone yourself this time, Joyce!

    60th Celebration Sundays Magnet

Have you picked up your magnet listing the dates of all our 60th Celebration Sundays throughout this year? They’re available in the narthex before and after in-person worship or from the church office Monday through Friday during our abbreviated hours of 9 a.m. to noon.

  • Advent 2020

    Advent 2020

    [vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

Our Advent theme this year is “I Believe Even When…” and comes from a quote found scrawled on a wall during the Holocaust which read: “I believe in the sun, even when the sun is not shining.”

We are called to have faith and believe in God even when things feel insurmountable. This has certainly been a year with situations and circumstances that feel insurmountable and beyond our control….and yet

God continues to move and speak to us. God’s presence is with us, like a Good Shepherd, who does not leave us in dark places but walks with us always.

Our devotional is available as a PDF download (for printing as a booklet or for viewing as pages on screen), as printed copies (a limited number available from the church office), and was sent as a daily email and shared on our social media channels.

  • Pledge 2021

    Pledge 2021

Our congregation remains the heartbeat of St. John’s, and your pledge is the lifeblood of our ministries. Inspired by Psalm 98, let us join in singing a new song, as we invest in our future together for joy.

Pledges made during this campaign will be active during the 2021 calendar year. If you have any questions about making a pledge, please contact LeAnn Davis, our Manager of Finance and Facilities.

Looking to make a one-time gift instead of a pledge? You can do that here.

    Hurricane Laura Relief Supplies Needed

    Hurricane Laura Relief Efforts

We will be collecting donations for the Hurricane Laura relief efforts throughout the month of September. Supply donations can be dropped off during Office Hours, Monday through Thursday, 9 am to noon or during the Drive-Thru Offering on Sundays from 11 am to noon.

Right now, Lake Charles cannot support volunteers, and emergency personnel are asking that volunteers not to come to the southwest region yet. There will soon be many opportunities to volunteer, but first we can offer prayer, financial support, and supplies.

There is a huge list of needs right now. You will find the list below*:

    • Baby food
    • Diapers
    • Water
    • Generators
    • Tarps
    • 12 penny nails
    • Furring strips
    • Box fans
    • Work gloves
    • Gas cans
    • Flat blade shovels
    • Extension ladders
    • Extension cords
    • Flat bars
    • Crowbars
    • Rakes

For now, these supplies are being collected and stored at Asbury United Methodist Church in Lafayette. We are looking for anyone with a truck and/or trailer who would be willing to deliver supplies to Lafayette in the coming weeks. Please contact Pastor Deirdre if you are able to drive a load to Lafayette.

If you would like to make a financial donation to the relief efforts, we have set up a special Disaster Relief Fund on our website. Choose the Missions Fund, and then the Disaster Relief Fund. Your donations will matter and will help restore hope and homes in southwest Louisiana.

*Please note that the list does not contain clothing. This is often a misunderstood part of disasters. The system gets inundated with clothing, and it becomes a burden to manage. Please understand that there is no need for clothing.
